MALVERN DRAMA GROUP … OUR FIRST THIRTEEN YEARS

1957   
        27th of September – The Malvern Arts Council decided to form a drama group.
        29th of October – The Malvern Drama Group was formed with an elected Interim Committee.
        3rd of December – Committee office bearers were elected.

1958

  • A LADY MISLAID – Directed by Luke Oldham  (2 performances 18 and 19/4/58). 
  • THE RIVER LINE – Directed by A. R. Beldam  (3 performances 27 to 29/5/58). 
  • RANDOM HARVEST – Directed by John Thompson  (3 performances 3 to 5/12/58). 
  • Two one-act plays: TICKET TO SPRINGTIME – Directed by Phil Burnett,  MRS. TREDRUTHAN’S SON – Directed by Alec Rosenblum  (one performance 18/12/58). 

1959

  • FLAT TO LET – Directed by Joan Morgan  (4 performances 27 to 30/4/59). 
  • TELL-TALE MURDER – Directed by Joan Morgan  (possibly 4 performances, opened 17/8/59). 
  • TRAVELLERS' JOY – Directed by Allan Stewart  (4 performances 9 to 12/12/59). 

1960

  • FOR BETTER FOR WORSE – Directed by Joan Morgan  (3 performances 28 to 30/3/60). 
  • THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK – Directed by Joan Morgan  (5 performances 28/6 to 2/7/60). 
  • Three play readings: THE CLOAK,  PORTRAIT OF A MADONNA,  ROUNDABOUT – (29/7/60) 
  • AS WORN BY ARCHILLES – Directed by Joan Morgan (6 performances 3 to 9/10/60). 
  • TAPESTRY OF SHADES – Directed by Joan Morgan  (9th VDL one-act play Festival 10/11/60).
  • Three one-act plays: THE FRIENDS OF VALERY LANE,  BRIGHT SOCIETY,  THE CLOD – names of the directors unknown  (one performance 1/12/60). 

1961

  • TEAHOUSE OF THE AUGUST MOON – Directed by Allan Stewart  (5 performances 16 to 20/5/61). 
  • Three one-act plays: THE DOUBTFUL MISFORTUNE OF LI SING,  THEY CAME TO A COTTAGE,  THE HAPPY JOURNEY – names of directors unknown  (3/8/61). 
  • FOR PETE’S SAKE – Directed by Joan Morgan  (5 performances 29/8 to 2/9/61).
  • A DAY IN THE LIFE OF … – Directed by Joan Morgan  (8 performances 27/11 to 9/12/61).  


1962

  • LAURA – Directed by Iris Blake  (number of performances unknown 2 to 14/4/62). 
  • Four one-act plays:  THE CELLAR and  GENTLE PERSUASION – Directed by Iris Blake,  SATURDAY NIGHT and  THE ROSE AND THE CROWN – Directed by Joy Batty  (performance dates unknown). 
  • HANDS ACROSS THE SEA – Directed by Ian Field  (one performance VDL Metropolitan Regional Festival 18/8/62 then three public performances 27 to 29/9/62). 
  • HAYFEVER – Directed by Allan Stewart  (4 performances 13 to 17/11/62). 

 
1963

  • Three one-act plays:  ON THE FRONTIER – Directed by Iris Blake,  OUT OF THE DARKNESS – Directed by Dorothy Ross,  CAREFUL RAPTURE – Directed by Ray Boatman  (2 performances 1/8 and 3/8/63 plus On The Frontier at the VDL Regional Festival 28/8/63). 
  • DON’T LISTEN LADIES – Directed by Mollie Corkran  (4 performances 20 to 23/11/63).


1964

  • FISH OUT OF WATER – Directed by Allan Stewart  (3 performances 30/4 to 2/5/64). 
  • Three one-act plays:  TWENTY-SEVEN WAGONS FULL OF COTTON – Directed by Ray Reardan,  A RESOUNDING TINKLE – Directed by Iris Blake,  SHORTLY AFTER LUNCH – Directed by Frank Dormer  (two performances 7/8 and 8/8/64). 
  • THE CELLAR – Directed by Iris Blake  (VDL one-act play Festival 21/8/64).
  • LORD ARTHUR SAVILE’S CRIME  (Victorian Amateur Premiere) – Directed by Iris Blake  (2 performances 26/11 and 28/11/64).  

1965

  • SOMEONE WAITING – Directed by Allan Stewart  (3 performances 1 to 3/4/65). 
  • TIME OUT FOR GINGER – Directed by John Gunn  (3 performances 3 to 5/6/65). 
  • Two one-act plays:  (the name of the first one is not known),  THE PUBLIC EYE - name of director not known  (possibly one performance, performance date unknown). 
  • THE TRUTH ABOUT THE TRUTH – Directed by Allan Stewart  (dates and number of performances unknown). 
  • MURDER MISTAKEN – Directed by Raymond Riordan  (3 performances 2 to 4/9/65). 
  • RELATIVE VALUES – Directed by Iris Blake  (3 performances 26 to 28/11/65).
