PLAY ONE 2024:
THE LIFESPAN OF A FACT
by Jeremy Kareken & David Murrell and Gordon Farrell
directed by Deborah Fabbro
16 February to 2 March
By arrangement with Music Theatre International Australasia Pty Ltd, on behalf of Dramatists Play Service, Inc.

Just how negotiable is a fact? Jim Fingal is a fresh-out-of-Harvard fact-checker for a prominent, but sinking New York magazine. John D’Agata is a promising writer with a transcendent story on the suicide of a teenage boy – an essay that could save the magazine from collapse. When the demanding editor-in-chief assigns the pedantic Jim to fact-check the story, the lines between journalistic integrity and artistic license begin to blur, and the three of them end up in an intense and funny high-stakes showdown. Based on the true story of John D’Agata’s essay ‘What Happened There?’, this fast-paced comedy of deliberate errors asks an age-old question: Why let the truth get in the way of a good story?
PLAY TWO 2024:
THE GLASS MENAGERIE
by Tennessee Williams
directed by Barry O’Neill
26 April to 11 May
By Arrangement with ORiGiN

Acknowledged as one of the great classic plays of our time, this work catapulted Tennessee Williams to international success. Set in the harsh world of tenement apartment living in St Louis, Missouri during the Great Depression, the story is steeped in the hopes and pain of the Wingfield family. Matriarch Amanda Wingfield struggles with the reality of her life, joyfully re-imagining her youth as a Southern belle, while nurturing her emotionally fragile and painfully shy daughter, Laura. Her son, Tom, yearns to escape the confines of his home but remains trapped by his devotion to his sister. Williams’ semi-autobiographical play examines the dreams and disappointments that ebb and flow in this bittersweet, sensitive portrayal of a family at odds with itself and reality.
PLAY THREE 2024:
LOVESONG
by Abi Morgan
directed by George Werther
21 June to 6 July
Copyright by Abi Morgan copyright agent: Catherine King of 42M&P Ltd. Palladium House, 1-4 Argyll Street, London, W1F 7TA

William and Margaret will share forty years of marriage, with moments of joy, but also much sadness. In this poignant and moving play we see them in both their optimistic and joyful younger years, as well as in their latter years, as they experience both happy memories and regrets. BAFTA awardee Abi Morgan has created a play touching on “magical realism” as ‘Bill’ and ‘Maggie’ intertwine poetically and musically with their younger selves in the home and garden in which they have always lived. British Theatre Guide described Lovesong as “A really beautiful, tender work … an unforgettable, elegiac drama”. This will be the premiere, non-professional staging of this very special play.
PLAY FOUR 2024, a musical produced together with Lilydale Athanaeum Theatre:
LITTLE WOMEN
book by Allen Knee, lyrics by Mindi Dickstein, and music by Jason Howland
directed by Alan Burrows
23 August to 7 September
By arrangement with Music Theatre International Australasia Pty Ltd, on behalf of Dramatists Play Service, Inc.

Louisa May Alcott’s beloved story of the adventures of the four March sisters is brought to vivid musical life in Little Women. The Civil War is in full swing, and the March sisters – Meg, the oldest, a romantic; the spirited and tomboyish Jo; sweet and loving Beth; and irascible, playful Amy – live in Concord, Massachusetts with their Marmee while their father is on the battlefield. Filled with adventure (both lived and imagined), heartbreak, and a deep sense of hope, their struggle to find their own voices mirrors the growing pains of a young America.
PLAY FIVE 2024:
TRUE MINDS
by Joanna Murray-Smith
directed by Dexter Bourke
25 October to 9 November
By arrangement with the playwright

Daisy Grayson is the author of a very successful book, which claims that, despite being an old-fashioned notion, ‘no man will marry a woman that his mother doesn’t approve of’. Tonight, Daisy is set to meet her fiancé’s mother, a frightening, fierce, arch-conservative, and hopes to win her approval. But a sudden storm brings unwelcome visitors: her alternative-thinking mother, her Marxist father, and, even worse, her ex-boyfriend, just out of rehab. ‘True Minds’ is a fast-talking, frenetically-paced romantic comedy about love and relationships, that explores the area between following the heart and listening to the head, from one of Australia’s most popular and successful playwrights.
